British Canoeing’s White Water Safety and Rescue Training provides the underpinning knowledge and teachings of simple and safe practical skills that can be applied within an emergency situation. The course is intended for all paddlers operating in a white water environment in a variety of crafts.

As this is a hands-on course, you’ll be involved in a number of practical activities and scenarios that are based upon the understanding of the need for structure and rescue protocols in an emergency situation, along with sound decision-making and peer leadership. Our highly experienced coaches will aim for you to leave this course having developed skills that will enable you to make good decisions and become a more integral and dynamic member of a paddling group.

Our White Water Safety and Rescue Training courses are run in groups of up to 6 candidates over the duration of two days.  Candidates are welcome to bring their own safety equipment such as throw lines, knives and slings. However, the course does involve workshops with the opportunity for you to experience using different types of equipment.

Course Content:

Areas covered on this course may include, but aren’t limited to:

• Appropriate equipment workshops
• Safety and rescue protocols
• Coaching a swimmer to shore
• Rescuing a swimmer with both rigid aids and the use of a throw line
• Use of improvised towlines
• Rescuing a capsized paddler using a mixture of deep water rescues
• Emptying a variety of boats such as white water, freestyle and sea kayaks
• Rescuing an unconscious or entrapped paddler from their craft
• Self rescues
• A variety of appropriate and realistic scenarios

£200.00 per person, discounts available for group bookings.

• Individual use of chosen venue *excluding the use of Canolfan Tryweryn*
• Certification where applicable

What to Bring:

• Equipment suitable for sheltered water environments and cold conditions
• Appropriate footwear for uneven and wet surfaces
• Lunch for both days

This course will run at a number of suitable venues throughout the year and is available upon request to groups by simply contacting us beforehand.
