Our Intermediate White Water Progression Canoe course is designed for the competent grade 2 paddler who wishes to improve beyond their existing skill set, progress on more challenging rivers and sharpen up their strokes. Our experienced coaches will find your unique starting point and set out a process for making you a more dynamic and capable paddler at a pace you are comfortable with.

The course will take place over two days on grade 2-3 with our coaches focusing on developing and perfecting fundamental white water canoe skills and techniques essential to navigate and stay safe on the river. Our coaches are highly experienced professionals who specialise in helping you build the links between your existing paddling skills and future potential to progress.

This course can be attended in a variety of craft, including white water kayaks, OC1s and sit on tops, depending on your skill level and the environment.

Course Content:

Areas covered on this course may include but aren’t limited to:

• Setting up your canoe and the importance of connectivity
• Breaking In and out of flows
• Crossing minor / major flows
• Positioning, timing and accuracy of strokes
• The sharpening up of and linking of strokes
• Maintaining an active blade
• Avoiding and using river features to your advantage
• Reading white water and planning routes down river sections
• White water safety and rescue techniques for common situations
• Peer river leading techniques, practices and trip planning
• Appropriate equipment and clothing workshops

This course will run at a number of suitable venues throughout the year, and is available upon request to groups by simply contacting us beforehand.
