Our two-day Supervising First Aid for Mental Health course has been designed to help people both recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health and how to implement strategies to support those who are affected by it. Our course aims to reduce the stigma of mental health, increase the provision of care for those suffering and provide clear and informative information on wide-ranging conditions to those who may otherwise not know about them.
Our experienced course providers will inspire and promote learning through a wide range of practical activities and continuous observation, leaving the course confident and with the skills to start a difficult conversation, provide support strategies and be able to signpost a person towards professional help.
Mental illness is the most significant cause of sickness and absence in the workplace and alone is responsible for 44% of all reported cases. In 2018 alone 3.9 million days were lost to non-fatal workplace injuries, furthermore, in that year, 15.4 million days were lost to work-related stress, depression or anxiety. That outweighs physical health considerably and highlights where the focus is and unfortunately isn’t. As a Mental Health First Aider in your workplace, you’ll be the go-to person for anyone who is going through some form of mental health issue. Present to help and guide the person in distress to the relevant help that they need, you’ll have the knowledge to spot someone who is developing a mental health issue and be on hand to intervene before it escalates. As a Mental Health First Aider, you’ll be able to build employees’ confidence to have open and honest conversations around mental health, challenge stigma and promote a mentally healthy environment, empowering colleagues with long-term mental health issues or disabilities to thrive in work, stopping preventable problems and allowing people to become more productive across the whole workplace, allowing employees recognise their mental and physical health are equally supported.Mental Health First Aider in Your Workplace
