Day 1:
Once you have arrived in Slovenia we will pick you up from the airport and travel to our first location, the sunny town of Velenje. We will establish the needs and wants of your group to ensure you get the most out of your time with us. We will then settle down for the night.
Day 2:
We set out today for our first swim! As a result of previous coal mining that took place in Velenje, three Šaleška Lakes were formed. These are Lake Velenje, Lake Škale, and Lake Druzmir. Each lake was formed after World War 2, and some have continued to grow in size and volume due to excavation. Lake Velenje, the town’s namesake, is the largest and most popular of them. However, we will be experiencing all three lakes on our swim today. After your first swim, we will meet for a lakeside lunch. After this, we will continue swimming in each of the lakes, and then we will go for a much-needed drink before retiring to our accommodation for a traditional Slovene dinner.
Day 3:
We are up and moving! Today we will be making our way to the mountain town of Bovec, home to the largest protected area and only national park in Slovenia, Triglav National Park, and the iconic River Šoca. First, however, we will make a pit stop in Italy, as we will be very close to the border, to swim in Lake Pedril which is found in an ancient glacial valley. It has a fantastic landscape and crystal-clear water. After a hearty lakeside lunch to take in all the beautiful nature, we will head to our accommodation to rest before going out to explore Bovec.
Day 4:
After waking up in the heart of the mountains, we will make our way to the famous alpine River Šoca. This emerald green river is one of Slovenia’s hidden gems, and one of the most stunning rivers in all of Europe. On a hot summers day, a swim in this river is amazingly refreshing. There are also beautiful landscapes and waterfalls to enjoy. Due to the water being colder here we will discuss beforehand how far the group wants to go. After a beachside lunch, we will take a small hike to the Tolmin gorge, taking in the unspoilt nature and everything else it has to offer.
Day 5:
We are on the move again today to our final destination of the trip. Heading over towards the town of Bled, home of Lake Bled, which is one of the most visited natural attractions in Slovenia.
After settling in, we will take a short drive to the west end of Lake Bled, the Zaka Valley. Here, we will swim in the beautiful blue waters towards the tiny tear-shaped island that is home to a historical church known as the Church of the Assumption, taking in the atmosphere of Lake Bled as we go. The current style in which the church was renovated has been preserved since the 17th century but dates back far further. On the upper roof, you can find a special wishing bell.
Day 6:
Today, we take the short drive to the glacially formed Lake Bohinj to enjoy one of the most picturesque swims you will ever take. It is the largest natural permanent lake in Slovenia, and some say its beauty rivals that of Lake Bled. Lake Bohinj is a 15-minute drive from our accommodation, and they do not allow motor craft on the lake. It will just be us and your safety crew. After our swim, we will have lunch and then you have a chance to either have another swim or explore the area on foot.
Day 7:
On our last full day, we give the group the option to return to Lake Bled and see the top sightseeing spots in the area or go for a swim of your choosing. As we have done for the whole trip, we will ensure that you are safe. In the evening, we will take you to one of our favourite restaurants in the area to talk about the past week’s activities.
Day 8:
All good things must come to an end. Time to say our goodbyes and make our way to the airport. If you are travelling together and have a late flight, there is an option to spend the day in the capital city before making your way to the airport.
As we will be doing a lot of swimming, make sure to pack plenty of swim kits. You will also need clothing appropriate for hiking/walking.
Lloyd Langford Expedition Training Limited provide all attendees with public liability insurance and accidental injury cover up to £5,000,000 during the trip, however, the risks associated with outdoor activities are your own and through booking and accepting our terms and conditions you take responsibility for these risks.
