Performing first aid can help to reduce the seriousness of a situation, prevent injuries and illnesses from worsening and even save a life. The majority of injuries sustained in schools occur during physical activities and other outdoor exercises with on average, 400,000 young people are injured in the UK at school every year.
Equipping teachers and other school staff with first aid skills and knowledge is vital for the following reasons:
- It promotes a sense of safety
Students, their parents, teachers and other staff members will be able to feel secure knowing that there are trained first-aiders on school grounds who are able to identify an emergency and act quickly to provide treatment.
- It can save lives and prevent conditions from getting worse
With the skills and techniques learnt from our first aid training, school staff will be able to take swift and appropriate action in emergencies and keep the situation calm and controlled. For example, a trained first-aider will know how to put someone in the recovery position, and how to properly give someone CPR, which can prevent further injures and save lives.
