Those who don’t ski or snowboard often wonder what the attraction is; the cold weather, the tumbling over, hurtling at high speeds down mountains with obstacles such as trees, crevasses and other people to circumnavigate. Deterred by the bulky boots, heavy equipment, and often a starting point.
Our Introduction to Snowsports course takes all this into account, offering both a personal and enjoyable journey helping you take your first steps and laying the foundations for what you’ll become. Our course is run by the former Slovene National Team Member and Director for SK Velenje David De-Costa who will oversee all the instruction and coaching. David is one of Slovenia’s highest regarded ski coaches, with both years of experience and a wealth of knowledge in taking peoples first nervous steps on the snow to alpine champions.
Our course is based at the Slovene Hotel and Mountain Resorts of Golte and Rogla, considered by many winter sports lovers to be two of the most beautiful ski centres in Slovenia. Situated at an altitude between 1,250 and 1,573 metres above sea level and encompassing 60 hectares of wonderful nature, you will find developed ski pistes, a luxurious hotel, bar complex and a spectacular spa to rest those new found aches and relax with friends.
So if you’re looking to take up a new sport, discover what could become a new passion and share some great experiences with new friends then this is the course for you.
Arriving in Slovenia you’ll be greeted at Ljubljana Airport and immediately taken out for lunch to experience a traditional Slovene meal. This provides a great opportunity for everybody to initially get to know each other, discuss the coming week and enjoy some great food. From here we’ll travel to the Hotel and Mountain Resort of Golte, one of Slovenia’s best ski resorts looming above the small town of Mozirje. A series of late afternoon workshops will run to help our coaches become acquainted with you and the group, share stories and discuss your goals and aspirations for the week. These workshops will centre on apparel choices, weather conditions and equipment set up.
The second day is all about suiting up, and getting out there for a days skiing. Our coaches will spend a great deal of time sensitively leading you through your first steps, a mixture of instruction and self discovery, with everybody receiving a mixture of one-to-one and one-to-three time with our coaches. During the afternoon after lunch your time will be yours, David will remain should anybody seek continued instruction, however you are free to enjoy the freedom of developing by yourself, measuring your own progress and taking it at your own pace.
It is important when learning new skills you feel comfortable and have the opportunities to relax. The Slovene Hotel and Mountain Resort of Golte boasts a fully equipped spa, gym and ice bar for you to chill out and enjoy the company of new friends.
From day three onwards the plan will vary dependant upon the group and the pace in which everybody is developing. Our coaches will continue to choose the best ways to help advance your skills over the course of the week, including morning photographic and video analysis sessions of your performance to help push you to excel.
All good things must come to and end, and on day 7 we’ll head as a group to Ljubljana Airport and say our goodbyes. We aim to have you leave your time with us with improved ski/board control, increased confidence and excitement to continue skiing or boarding with great excitement.
When you arrive in Slovenia you’ll be met at Ljubljana Airport, this will also be the destination where you’ll be dropped off at at the end of the course. If you wish to stay for any additional days in Slovenia these will be need to be arranged independently, travel to the countries capital Ljubljana can be sought from the airport during the day and takes roughly an hour.
